The particular case of the hostels of the University of
Hongkong were dealt with by the Rating Amendment Ordinance, 1915,
and that Ordinance is now repealed by the present Ordinance.
The Ordinance has already been approved by the Secretary
of State in his despatch of the 30th December, 1916.
It will be seen that the Ordinance as passed differs in one
point from the draft which was submitted to the Secretary of
State.
That draft purported to add a sub-section (4) to sec-
tion 39 of the Rating Ordinance, 1901, but did not repeal the
sub-section (4) which had been added to that section by the Ra-

In my opinion this is an Ordinance to which His Excellency
the Governor may properly assent in the name of His Majesty and
on His behalf.
